Measuring the Droplet Spectrum (Droplet sizing) for Bayer Vector Control Products

This instruction guideline applies to all Bayer branded Vector Control Products including: Aqua-ReslinŽ, PermanoneŽ, ScourgeŽ, and PyrenoneŽ.

The aerosol droplet size range for aerial and truck mounted ground based applications of Bayer Vector Control Products (VMD or MMD) may be determined using generally acceptable methods such as but not limited to; The A.I.M.S. measurement system; PC-DC-III; TeflonŽ- or Magnesium oxide-coated glass slides; and/or wind tunnel facilities equipped with laser instruments.

When droplet sizing using either an A.I.M.S.; PC-DC-III, the machine should be adjusted to the oil setting, including measurement of the FFAST formulation Aqua-Reslin.

When using slides, use Teflon-coated slides for oil based formulations, use MgO-coated glass slides for Aqua-Reslin, and make sure an adequate volume of air is sampled by using, for example, rotating slide impingers. Slides should be examined microscopically and the diameter of droplets measured in microns. Slides should be scanned until at least 200 droplets have been sized.

Current U.S. E.P.A. guidelines require that application equipment must be tested at least annually to confirm that nozzle performance, flow rate(s) and droplet size requirements are met.

Use the appropriate spread factor to correct droplet diameters. Please see table below for correct spread factors.
