Determine Droplet Spectrum for Bayer Vector Control Products

/icons/ecblank.gif
This instruction applies to all Bayer branded Vector Control Products: Aqua-ReslinŽ, PermanoneŽ, ScourgeŽ, and PyrenoneŽ.

Aerosol droplet size of a Bayer Vector Control Products application may be determined using generally acceptable methods such as but not limited to Laser instrument, A.I.M.S.; PC-DC-III; TeflonŽ- or Magnesium oxide-coated glass slides. When droplet sizing using either an A.I.M.S.; PC-DC-III, the machine should be adjusted to the oil setting. When using Teflon- or MgO-coated glass slides, an adequate volume of air should be sampled by using, for example, rotating slide impingers. Depending on the apparatus used, follow manufacturer's instructions for obtaining droplet measurements. Slides should be examined microscopically and the diameter of droplets measured in microns. Slides should be scanned until at least 200 droplets have been sized. A spread factor should be used to correct droplet diameters.

Please see table below for correct spread factors. Use the link here (www.adapcoinc.com/dropletform.php) to access droplet analysis program.

Application equipment must be tested at least annually to confirm that nozzle performance, flow rate(s) and droplet size requirements are properly calibrated.

Ground Equipment:
Vehicle-mounted ULV cold aerosol generators or vehicle-mounted non-thermal aerosol spray equipment must be adjusted so that the volume median diameter (VMD) produced ranges 8 to 30 microns. No more than 3% of the droplets should exceed 50 microns.

Aerial Equipment:
Spray equipment must be adjusted so that the volume median diameter produced is less than 60 microns and that 90% of the spray is contained in droplets smaller than 100 microns. The effects of flight speed and, for non-rotary nozzles, nozzle angle on the droplet size spectrum must be considered. For aerial applications, the use of ULV equipment and nozzles such as rotary atomizers or similar types that produce droplet VMD's less than 60 microns are recommended.
