How it Works
Prograss® is a selective herbicide that controls Poa annua in cool-season grasses and overseeded bermudagrass. Prograss is approved for use on golf course fairways, sodfarms, cemeteries, and commercial and homeowner lawns. Unlike other selective herbicides, Prograss provides both pre- and postemergence control of Poa annua. This allows users to fight Poa during its cool-season germination and growth periods. A customized Prograss herbicide program can provide the desired control of Poa every season. Prograss also controls a wide variety of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds.
FAQ
Q: Why is Poa annua such a problem for golf course superintendents?
A: Poa annua is an annual bluegrass that favors cool, moist conditions for germination and growth, flourishing from fall to spring. Thus, it has a strong competitive edge over the grasses preferred for many golf courses. Combined with turf that is mowed closely and irrigated regularly, Poa annua can dominate a stand of grasses. Also, annual bluegrass does not flourish during hot, dry periods. Its death may leave unsightly holes in the turf.
Q: Which turfgrasses are tolerant of Prograss?
A: Prograss can be used safely on bermudagrass (dormant, overseeded with ryegrass), creeping bentgrass, Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass, turf-type tall fescue and St. Augustinegrass (established).
Q: Is Prograss safe for overseeded turf?
A: Yes. If safety intervals listed on the label are followed, Prograss can be used after overseeding.
